Ronstadt does not remember ANY of his life prior to a few months before his Craydar kicks in. His new girlfriend, Faye, tells him that all the memories he's been relating to her are from movies, television, and old commercials. He has one single vision to go on, which he received while casting his first spell: he once had a different body, and had to fight someone very powerful. That person told him "you can never get out", though he's not sure what that means.

CRAU headcanon is that Ronstadt was once an extremely powerful magician named Lennox, and he and John Constantine became friends during their mutual quest for knowledge... and then a bit more than that. Maybe a lot more than that. But his thirst for power and knowledge led him down a dark path and into dangerous company. Lennox began to care less for human life and more about power, and he and Constantine had a messy, violent breakup. This made him realize he'd gone too far, and he decided to leave the company of the group of witches and magicians he'd joined. However, the leader of the coven wouldn't let him - the vision which Ronstadt had seen - and after very narrowly escaping the fight, Lennox decided the only way to leave would be to go into hiding. He used some of his most powerful magic to lock away his power and his memories, and change his form. The end result was Ronstadt. At the point where they check into the Hotel Fen, Constantine has just realized who Ronstadt is, and they've begun to slowly go over it all and figure out what to do about it.
